The Newell Quilters

The Newell Quilters began in 2010 out of a congregational meeting to come up with ideas for fellowship.  Alma Pinkerton suggested it and she didn’t even know how to sew.  The idea took off with Freda Schlaman and Robin Burrows leading the group, both of which are experienced quilters.

Ladies of different ages and different sewing experience  meet every other Monday in the Education Building to hand sew quilts and to fellowship with each other.  The quilts are dedicated and then given to someone that the group decides on.  So far 23 quilts have been given to sick members, members moving away, members having a baby and so on.

Each quilt is made with love and given to wrap someone in the warmth of a handmade quilt and the love of the Newell Quilters.

Circle #3

Circle #3 is open to all women of the church, and is led by Phyllis Cochran and Marlene Thompson. We meet at a local restaurant on the third Thursday of each month for dinner, fellowship, and lively conversation. As a group, we participate in many service opportunities within the church and the community. On an annual basis, the first long weekend in November will find the group headed to the beach for a women's weekend retreat. In December, the group joins with the other circles for the annual Newell Presbyterian Christmas luncheon, where we exchange gifts, share lunch, read a Christmas story, and celebrate the birth of Christ.

Circle #2 [Second Tuesday of the Month]

We have silver hair, golden shoes, a cane or two, and some don’t drive at night. So we meet on the second Tuesday of each month (except during June, July, and August) in the Parlor at 1:30PM. Together, we study lessons from the workbook published by the Presbyterian Women. That book, the Bible, and personal experiences serve as the resources for our discussion. The format is one of sharing ideas and experiences and our conversation is facilitated a “teaching team.” If you don’t fit the opening description, come join us anyways! We would love to welcome you and look forward to seeing you soon!

Men's Ministry [Second Sunday of the Month, 10:00AM]

This group meets in the Conference Room for breakfast, fellowship, and prayer once a month, along with various outings scheduled throughout the year. This group tends to enjoy golf, Charlotte sporting events, and biking on the Virginia Creeper Trail, but is always open to invitations that begin with, “what if we tried…”
